The Glen Ellyn Senior Service Center Center is sponsored by the
Village of Glen Ellyn and the DuPage Senior Citizens Council.
The Glen Ellyn Senior Service Center is located at 493 Forest Avenue, one
block north of the train station on the southeast corner of Forest and Pennsylvania
Avenues.
We are privileged to have donated space in Grace Lutheran Church on the first
floor. There are no stairs to climb and a ramp provided for easy access.

MEALS
- Dining Center
Offering more than a meal, our Center provides Glen Ellyn
seniors with an opportunity to socialize as they enjoy a hot, nutritious
meal.
Hours: Monday through Friday we begin serving lunch at 11:15 and will
serve until all diners are present.
Dining guests are expected to make a confidential contribution toward
the cost of the meal. Please make as generous a contribution as you can.
Diners under the age of 60 years need to pay the full cost of the meal of $5.85
Please reserve your meal by 11:00 a.m. the day before you plan to eat
at the Center. Our food comes from Hoffman House Catering in Batavia. We
order Monday's meals on Friday morning.
Our menu is also published in the Glen Ellyn News and the Daily Herald.
All programs are made available to all ages. We welcome all to come in
to see our Center, discover our resources, to ask questions.
- How does a person in DuPage County over 60 years of age get meals
delivered to the home?
Each weekday, volunteers deliver nutritious meals to seniors
sixty years and older.
Evening, Saturday, and holiday meals are also available for the more frail
seniors who do not have family support in the immediate area.
This program promotes dignified independent living and is available to
homebound seniors.

Transportation Options
- Reduced Fare RTA Permit for half price fare, 65 years +, on all Metra and CTA trains
and Pace Buses.
If you are 65 years of age or older, you are eligible to obtain this Senior Citizen Reduced Fare Card. We take your picture (a $3.00 fee) and photocopy one of the following proof of age documents: driver's license (any state), U.S. Immigration Alien Registration Card, passport (any country, photocopy of page(s) with photo and date of birth), State of Illinois Identification Card, or Medicare card with one of the photo I.D.'s listed above.
Your picture and photocopy of the I.D. are enclosed in your completed
registration envelop which we will mail to RTA.
You need to make an appointment at the Center by calling 858-6343 between
9am-1pm M-F.

A telephone service is provided that offers emotional support to the caller
and provides information about Alzheimer's disease, Chapter services, and community
services.
Helpline is available to families, caregivers, and professionals who call
to request information, guidance and reassurance. Resource information is available
regarding Medical Care (Diagnostic Centers), Legal Assistance, Respite Care,
Skilled Nursing Care, Home Care, Adult Day Care, Safe Return, and Other Community
Programs.
Callers may remain anonymous, if desired, and information remains confidential.

The Eldercare Locator is a nation-wide service to help families and friends
find information about community services for older people.
One way you can help the older person you know is by gathering information
about services and programs in his or her community. Information about the
local senior center, transportation services and housing options will allow
you to make the best choices for every one involved.
The Eldercare Locator gives you access to an extensive network of organizations
serving older people at state and local community levels. These State and Area
Agencies on Aging are funded in part by the U.S. Administration on Aging through
the Older Americans Act. These agencies serve as advocates for older persons

- The Guardian Program
A county-wide telephone reasurance program recently introduced by the
DuPage County Sheriff's Office.
This service provides a computerized telephone call to check on the well-being
of senior citizens on a daily basis or other schedule.
To qualify, you must be a resident of DuPage County over the age of 62
and living alone or a DuPage County resident who is physically disabled
and requires daily contact to ensure his or her welfare. A senior (62 and
over) who lives with a mentally- or physically-impaired person also qualifies
for participation in the program.
An application and a waiver form can be obtained from the DuPage County
Sheriff's Office 682-7256.
