Blue Prairie is one of the Midwest's finest Western Swing Bands, comprised of the finest professional musicians with years of experience in the performing and recording fields.

The members of Blue Prairie have played virtually every major venue in the Chicago area, including the All State Arena, and have shared the stage with a who's who of country music stars from Alabama, George Strait, Dolly Parton, Merle Haggard and The Judds.

• Lead singer Rick Pickren, a star of the musical Pump Boys and Dinettes, led back-to-back winners in the Marlboro Country Talent Roundup and opened the tour at the Rosemont Horizon.
   
  Also an experienced actor, Rick guest-starred on The Untouchables and is featured in the movies Major League and While You Were Sleeping.

 

• Bassist Malcolm Ruhl is also an original member of, and musical director of Pump Boys & Dinettes. Malcolm is a talented multi-instrumentalist, theatre music director and much sought after arranger. In Branson, Missouri he performed in Pump Boys & Dinettes and played bass for The Osmond Brothers and The Lennon Brothers.
   
• John Rice, one of Chicago's most sought-after sidemen and session instrumentalists, plays guitar, fiddle, mandolin, banjo and dobro. He is a member of The Pine Valley Cosmonauts and frequent sideman for Jon Langford. He's also an alum of Jump 'n The Saddle and The Burning Hunks.
   
• Ken Champion is a master of the pedal steel guitar and is an original member of the world's greatest party band: Dr. Bop & The Headliners.

 

• Drummer Bill Shafer is the king of swing when it comes to laying down a swinging groove. Bill has played with Mickey and the Memories, The Sundowners, Jump 'n The Saddle and The Burning Hunks.
