LETTERS TO THE EDITOR |

Daily Herald Leader for Glen Ellyn During most of my rather lengthy residence in Glen Ellyn, I have been privileged to serve on a number of boards and commissions, as well as for a term as village president. During that time, I had the opportunity to observe the dedication and qualifications of the volunteers who provide such excellent service. Greg Mathews is one of these individuals. He is a lifelong Glen Ellyn resident who displayed academic and leadership skills at both Glenbard West High School and at Yale University, after which he obtained a law degree from Indiana University. In addition to his service as chairman of the Village Cable Commission, he served a term as village trustee (1993-1997) and was selected as acting village president (1997) to complete the term of John Demling, who was appointed as a DuPage County Circuit Court judge. Greg presently serves as president of the Glen Ellyn Economic Development Corporation. In all of his public service, Greg has demonstrated fiscal responsibility, as well as the ability to bring a historical perspective to his public service. Based on his education, experience and background, Greg Mathews is uniquely qualified to serve Glen Ellyn as the next village president. Glen Ellyn holds its election on Saturday, Nov. 18. Please mark your calendar to visit your Civic Center between noon and 4 p.m. to cast your ballot for Greg Mathews. Frank J. Wiedner |
Glen Ellyn News Endorses Mathews for village president While there are [two] good candidates for the office of village president, my hearty endorsement goes to Creg Mathews. His experience on the Cable Commission and the Cable Foundation prepared him for serving as a capable village trustee from 1993 to 1997. When then President John Demling resigned to become a judge, the remaining trustees honored Greg by voting to install him as acting village president to fill out the balance of John's term. Greg is a graduate of Glenbard West and a long-time resident. His service as president of the Glen Ellyn Economic Development Corporation gives him an understanding of what is necessary to keep Glen Ellyn the viable community it is now. I've known Greg for many years and find him to be a gracious, intelligent, capable man who treasures Glen Ellyn and will serve us well. Marjorie Faulkner |
