    Glen Ellyn, A Village Remembered
The Definitive History of the Village

     OVERVIEW

    • From its beginning in the early 1830's, the Village of Glen Ellyn's history has been richly textured by the people who pioneered the prairies and made the fulfillment of their dreams our legacy.

Lest these dreams be lost, a group of dedicated volunteers founded the Glen Ellyn Historical Society in 1968. Today, the Society's programs encompass activities involving hundreds of residents of the Village of Glen Ellyn.

     MISSION

The Purpose of the Society is to investigate and study the history of Glen Ellyn and vicinity.

Members of the Glen Ellyn Historical Society are proud to be responsible for:

      • The operation and support of Stacy's Tavern Museum (in partnership with the Village of Glen Ellyn).

      • A house plaque program to research and identify Village structures of historical significance. Plaques placed on the structures are an interesting addition to Glen Ellyn's living history.

      • An active Archive to collect and preserve documents that are significant to area history.
      • Educational Outreach, including lectures and seminars on historical topics to a variety of audiences, school programs, and artifact and library collection, and participation in Village activities.

Stacy's Tavern was a wayside stagecoach inn built in 1846. It has been restored on its original site; exhibits and additions to the artifact collection are ongoing.
